Didn’t like that it beeped when I opened it. Found out that if you open it up, unscrew the screw on the left hand side and on the right hand side under the battery cover, you can take the buzzer off with a pair of pliers. It works just fine without the buzzer. And still allows you to access the safe using the fingerprint pad.
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. It will hold 2 handguns. I love the biometric fingerprint sensor. Very high quality! It works every time and very fast! The foam keeps the guns from moving around. My only complaint is the lack of optional grip pads for the bottom. If you plan to set on a table or any hard, flat surface, you will need to purchase grip pads. It’s a minor inconvenience but would have been nice to add if the consumer needs it. Otherwise, it slides around. I purchased some on Amazon for about $5 which worked like a charm.
Cons:Did not come with a cable.Pros:Price point makes biometric fingerprint reading safe within budget of may people.Heavy construction.Owner can add multiple fingerprints to ensure if one finger is damaged, others will work.Owner can also add fingerprints of other authorized users.Key available to unlock in case battery dies.Holes in bottom of shell to secure Smart Pistol Safe to a wall, drawer, or anything else.I will be buying others to install in different rooms of my house and into my vehicles.Use this in my Concealed Weapons Permit classes to show finger print operated pistol safes are within the budget range of most handgun owners. I’ve had students take pictures of this safe and look it up in class.
I just received my gun safe and set it up. I read many reviews before making the purchase and saw many that mentioned the programming of the fingerprints did not work well. There were many others that said it was fine if you followed the directions. For me, I had absolutely no trouble programming fingerprints by following the simple instructions in the booklet that came with the safe. I added one fingerprint at a time to test it. I ended up adding 4 prints in total. After the addition of each print I attempted to open the safe with each programmed finger and with fingers that were not programmed. The safe worked just at it should. It always opened with my registered prints and never opened with prints that were not registered. Programming was simple. Use the included screwdriver to open battery compartment, put in the batteries (it did not bother me that the batteries were not included), and press the reset button. It beeps once and the light around the sensor blinks blue. Hold your finger on the sensor until it flashes green, do it twice more and it flashes green twice indicating your print is registered. There is also a button inside the safe you can press to disable or reenable the electronic beeps. You can use the screwdriver to press the button.I have not yet attempted to erase the prints so I cannot attest to how well that works. Also, I have not used it over time yet to see if the prints will work as well after several days – though I don’t know why that would matter. As for the safe itself, it appears to be solidly constructed and quite secure. I am planning on using it in the home and taking it in vehicle so I can put it under a car seat. It certainly is low-profile enough to go under the car seat. I am using it to hold a Ruger Security 9 Compact and two stock 10-round magazines and there is plenty of room.If anything changes I will update my review but so far it has been just as advertised.
This safe checked all the boxes I wanted in a replacement safe. My previous safe had a biometric scanner and push buttons for a code. Those were ok but limited to two fingerprints. In addition the door release also had a piston to fully lift the door to access the weapon, the problem is the piston has worn out and the door doesn’t spring open enough to quickly open the safe. So for my new safe I wanted a better biometric scanner, the ability to store more than two prints, and most importantly little to no spring to open to access the contents. This safe hit all those points. The scanner is very similar to an iPhone fingerprint scanner. As I did with my old iPhone, I changed scan positions drastically to ensure pretty much any finger position would unlock the safe. I also scanned different parts of the same finger such as the middle of the of and closer to the first joint since I wasn’t getting a good read on the middle pad scan.A couple of issues brought up in other reviews:This version of safe does have a silence button to turn off beeps or chimes while scanning or accessing the safe. Prior versions of the safe may not have had this feature.Second issue was the scanner reading any fingerprint from another person after a print has been programmed. As stated above the scanner is defaulted to read any print upon unboxing. When a custom print is added this default is turned off. If the safe is reset to remove all finger prints then the default would be any print can unlock the safe. Additionally I had other people test the fingerprint scanner after I programmed my fingerprint and no one else was able to unlock the safe. The only negatives I could find the padding inside of pretty thin and not well attached to the safe. The key type used for unlocking is pretty easy to defeat. Not the most secure key type but if someone has access to a small safe locked in my home that can be pried open they can have it.
Was a bit skeptical, but once I received this item I was pleasantly surprised. This is the one you want. Programming the reader takes a few minutes, but once it’s done, this thing is rock solid. If you want to keep a firearm at the ready, safely stored, but don’t want to spend more than $100, this is the one you have been looking for. Can store 2 mid/compact firearms depending on size of course. Fingerprint reader reads, unlocks, and pops open in about 1.5 seconds on mine. Not sure if the beep sound can be disabled, but would be nice.
Overall I really like this safe. It is solidly built and comes with a steel cable to secure it so no one can walk off with it. The size is perfect, it was able to fit a HK USP Expert, which is a monstrous handgun. It sides nicely under a bed or couch and can be deployed in moments. The construction is very heavy-duty, it would take some serious effort to get it open. The only trouble I had was with the finger print scanner. I originally scanned my thumbs and index fingers, but found that the scanner failed to recognize me when I tried to open it the first time around. It would open on the second try each time. I decided to clear all the fingerprints and just scan my same thumb multiple times under different profiles. I did one on the left side, one on the right, one at the tip of my thumb, and one at the base. This seems to have remedied the issue, I can get it to open the first time regularly now.Overall I like the safe and think it is a great value. If I was able to make changes, I would add either rechargeable batteries or a hard-wire plug so I don’t need to rely on a set of AA batteries. I’m sure they last a while, however it would be just my luck they would die on the exact day I need them the most.+5 Stars: Great value, well made and sturdy. Restraining cable included-1 Star: the fingerprint scanned could be better, had to scan the same thumb multiple times so it would recognize me regularly4 Stars total
Well built and sturdy safe. Biometric Fingerprint reader worked awesome. Had an issue and realized I had to store and save the finger prints hitting the reset button then waiting for the beep w the lid open and worked great. Once I did I tried other Fingerprints once saved and stored and the lid closed and didn’t open. Only wanted one Fingerprint saved so noone else can access or open it. Used the chain and was able to secure to something so wouldn’t be able to stolen. Would recommend. Worth the money.
I am really enjoying this safe, I have been looking for one this size for some time. It is small enough to fit in a drawer or underneath any cabinet yet it will hold two weapons and extra magazines for quick access. It is made of 16-gauge carbon steel with a black rocky finish which will prevent corrosion. It comes with a 3ft braded steel cable for secure attachment and mounting screws and anchors for wall or floor mounting. It is pry resistant and includes anti-impact latches. When opening the safe it will pop open for quick access to your weapon, no need to fight with the lid. The lid is designed to stay open at 90 degrees. The fingerprint sensor is large and records prints at 500 DPI. You can add 20 prints from multiple fingers or people. The biometric sensor detects and opens the safe in less than a second for quick entry. The LED light around the finger print sensor provides instant feed back regarding a bad scan, safe unlock or low battery condition. Two keys are provided for access in case the batteries die.Watch my detailed video review for more information. Please store your weapons safely away from children.
