If you decide to keep a firearm in your home you must consider the issue of how to store the firearm in a safe and secure manner. California recognizes the importance of safe storage by requiring that all firearms sold in California be accompanied by a DOJ-approved firearms safety device or proof that the purchaser ...
Rust will eat away at the metals of firearms causing discoloration and even pits in what should be a solid surface. It is the union of moisture and oxygen on a metal surface which produces oxidation that causes rust on firearms.
All the firearms you keep in your gun safe should be kept at an optimal humidity setting. A firearm that becomes too dry may not function well and can develop corrosion. The stocks may also crack and become impossible to utilize if they become dry.
But even the slightest amount of humidity trapped inside a gun vault can cause damage to firearms and other valuables. For low-humidity environments, a desiccant humidifier may be sufficient as long as you change it out frequently to ensure it's most effective.
Once your guns are in the container, just close and lock it right away. You should then put airtight gun-safe desiccants inside to keep everything dry and protected against humidity as well as odor-causing bacteria.

This safe has all the features I was looking for – programmable keypad entry, backup keys, solid construction. It arrived today and I was able to easily set my own code. I like the security cable option as I keep the safe by my bed, and am not especially thrilled with the idea of mounting it to my nightstand with the included bolts :). The cable lets me keep it fairly secure. If you want to take the bed apart to steal the safe then yeah, you’ve got it. Otherwise it’s not going anywhere.
Solid. Safe but accessible. 5 square tactile & audible& backlit buttons. 6 number code Max, so the options to enter 4, 5, or 6 numbers really multiplies the security of the combination. Nobody else is getting in this box unless they find the key or bring it to a machine shop. Full size 9mm & 2 magazines [ IWI Jericho ] is what I keep in there in easy reach of the bed. Under 12 seconds from head on pillow to ready to fire….without any lights on. There is room for double this quantity as a reasonably tight fit; but I utilize this for a singular purpose. Safe from the grandkids and ready for an incident in seconds. Best choice anywhere near this price. And I showed it to the 10 year old so she knows what it is & had her sign the Safety Pledge …… find it online or I’ll update with a link. She took it very seriously as the first grown up thing that she’d ever committed to. I felt like this was the right thing to do so there’d be no curiosity if she ever came across the heavy black steel box,
It is good size for a S&W M&P EZ9 with extra mags. Case is reasonable sturdy. Practice your combo if you want quick access. Wish the lid popped up more when you opened it. YouTube search how to pick/defeat these boxes before you buy. Mine is not accessible with a paperclip like the one video shows. Got it on sale, so price was good for my needs. If you want an antitheft device for more than just cutting a cable, you’ll need to mount it. I would buy it again. 4 stars is just because the combo takes some practice to get quick at it. Battery life is TBD.
This Security Safe came in a very nice box well supported and protected in high quality foam with parts packaged in nice quality envelopes. It is very sturdy and has some weight to it. It appears to be a quality made product. The safe has a hard finish that will not show finger prints. It was very easy to set up and the keys work easily. It came with a security cable, two keys, a screw driver for the battery compartment, mounting screws (if you want them) and easy to follow instructions. The inside is lined with foam and there is plenty of space inside for two compact pistols and two magazines. This perfectly meets my need of easy quick access and keeping contents secure from curious children. So far I really like it. I would recommend this to anyone with similar needs.
I have seen the reviews of other similar devices, this doesn’t have the same issues as others. It’s fast to get into, has a better key lock that isn’t easily opened by a keying device, it cannot be opened by a paperclip, the device buttons and batteries are screwed into a compartment. enough space for 2 pistols, I use it for a single pistol+holster, a jewelry tote, and some cash. mounted it to the bed post side wall sideways. works great. wish there was a large lip so things don’t easily tumble out when its mounted sideways. for the price and the quality I am not complaining. Keeps things at the ready, and the rest is stored elsewhere.
I got this for a couple reasons, 1st the most basic, to lock up my gun.I had gotten one of the combination dial lock boxes here, about $25 to use in my car. You know when at work, the bank, post office, etc. anywhere you aren’t allowed to carry. One day the lock just fell apart, due to a plastic part inside the lock.I tried a snap on box that was a 14 or 16 gauge steel, but would pop open due to inertia when dropped from about thigh high. I sent that back, but really like the electronic lock feature, like what I have at home. I wound up with a keyed Lock box, very strong, 14 gauge steel, but I still favored the electronic opening, with a key option.I had seen these for some time, the cheaper single gun one actually has more reviews, all of the RPNB boxes/safes look to have good ratings. I figured I would try one.I chose this one as it looks to hold 2 guns with spare mags, all still in the holster. Very important. Some of the boxes are too thin to accept a holstered weapon. So what do you do with the holster? I would have preferred 3 electronic keys, but 4 is doable. I think most people would prefer 4 buttons over 3.I got this home, I set and tried the combination many times, it worked good. The keys/buttons light up and beep as you press them. I am fine this way or silent. You can silence the beeps by the way. It’s not in the instructions, but I searched online. It also shows how in the video on the Amazon web site when you read the description. You can toggle beep, or silent by pressing and holding the #1 button for a few seconds. All the keys light up and your preference is locked in. The lights will still flash in either setting. When the code is entered the lid pops open slightly, not a bunch, so you do have to open it.Good news! I tried drooping this thing on each side 3 times to insure it would stay locked. It does, YAY!, no way easy to break into here. The electronics are programmed by you using a 4 to 6 number sequence. The default is 1,2,3,4 in that order. Which is replaced when you set the code combination you want to use.More good news, When you program your code, this one goes away. Well DUH, right? Some boxes keep the default code too, not good.I can easily fit 2 pistols in here, and a spare magazine for both, with all 4 items holstered. There is even a little room for a flashlight. Nice! One more thing, this comes with mounting bolts, and also pre-drilled holes under the egg crate foam to secure this. There is also a cable to secure it to something stationary in you car or house. It clips in the small hole towards the back, by the hinge to hold the cable in place. Another plus for this box. (Versus being towards the end that opens)Ok, so I decided I have to keep this thing, it checks all my boxes, what about yours? The only thing I would like to change is 14 or even 12 gauge steel vs the 16, but it is still a quality box, Well worth the price of admission. If you want a less expensive and smaller option the RPNB box for a single handgun is available here too. That one uses an RFID tag as well. I was torn between trying both of these,I have had this just a few weeks, but looks to be a solid choice. Now the bad news, as I type this, I see it’s not available, so if you are unable to get in on this model, I would recommend the brand and the company.
The quality of the safe looks good. Heavy metal for small safe which is good. Has a great exterior finish. Lock and unlocks with ease. You can turn off the beeping of the buttons by holding down “1” for 5 secs for a quite operation. Takes 4 AAA batteries that are not included. I put rechargeable IKEA batteries that for the past 3 months been working great. My only negative thing I have to say is the blue light that turns on when you press the buttons is pretty bright. I wish they would of gone with a dimmer light and green instead of blue. For the price its a great purchase. I put my Springfield XD full size pistol and has enough room for 3 extra mags on the side. It can easily fit two full size pistols if needed.
I love how heavy and strong it is. Quality engineered case. The electronics are ok. Thankfully there is an option to turn off the audible beeps when buttons are pressed. It is so loud. Would notify an intruder of your presence/location/intentions. Also buttons are limited to only digits 1 through 4, for your code. Cannot incorporate the numbers 5 6 7 8 9 or zero into your code. An easy fix (which I did with stickers) would be imprinting 1/2 3/4. 5/6. 7/8 instead of 1. 2. 3. 4.
So let me start off and say that this safe is great! Its super sturdy and thick. The outside seems to have a nice powder coat finish and won’t scratch easily. The inside is really nice and spacious with thick foam padding on the top and bottom. I am able to fit my holster Taurus G2C and two mags in there easily if i wanted to I could fit another handgun in too if I rearranged a bit. The passcode can be form 4-6 numbers long so I programed a 6 digit one. Here where the problem I have comes in which realistically probably will never become a problem but it is a serious concern. While being able to silence the beeps the clicks the buttons make while punching in your code is so loud when its super quiet such as at night and on top of that the lights flash as you push each button and then flash a few times when it opens. The motor the open the latch inside is also kinda loud. 99% of the time this isn’t an issue and I would careless but that1% chance that you need to get to your gun quietly because someone just broke into your house and you don’t want them hearing you this might screw you over. Again this is not a reason to just discard this safe because in all other aspects and especially the price point I absolutely love it. Its just the off chance that the lights and noise it makes the situation much more dangerous. To play devils advocate you can bypass all of the lcicks and lights and noise if you have the master key near you but the whole point of those is to use when the battery dies or forget the code and thats most likely going to be in a hidden spot where you probably won’t be able to quickly or quietly get to if your in that situation.
I purchased the gun safe for those times when I don’t or can’t take a weapon with me and need to leave it securely in the car. I measured everything and the safe fits under my driver’s seat, from the back. As it turns out, when I’m sitting in the seat, my butt pushes the cushion down and the bottom of the seat sags a bit, and that pushes the buttons on the safe when I hit a bump. This means I hear a beep beep beep beep every few bumps, which is the alert for a missed combo code. If the buttons had some type of edge around them, it wouldn’t happen. The cable groove is simply cut into the side of the case. I wonder if a truly desperate person couldn’t pull the box off the cable if you yanked it hard enough.I raised the seat a bit which seems to have stopped the beeping problem for now, and at least the safe fits under the seat so no one will know it’s there, unless they go digging under my seat.It came with mounting hardware to mount the safe to the floor or other surface but has no mounting holes in the bottom. I guess you have to drill them yourself. UPDATE: There are four holes in the metal floor to mount the box… I didn’t see them since they are small and not in the foam as well.I did drilled a small hole in the battery door cover so I don’t have to use the screwdriver to press the reset button.
perfect for what I need it for. Just wish this version had the ability to silence buttons
Very study and well built. Easy to program. Easy to mount. Roomy enough for two guns or one and three magazines. The only thing as a dad of two young children is the six digit code. Not likely but if the right six digits are pushed then the safe will open. Also quick entry depends on how fast you can punch in the six digits.
The person that said you need to press hard to close the lid was all most right, you need to press it but not really hard. I bought this safe for my daughter to keep a weapon in she has three kids, I have had the safe for two weeks now I have put it through every thing that could go wrong with it it just keeps on working very solid, this weekend I am going to give it to my daughter along with the new smith and Wesson M&P 9 mm, I have no worries because it’s a great product. Staff Sargent 101st airborn rangers.
I was hesitant because similar items were selling for twice as much at sporting goods stores. This unit seems just a durable and as well made.
Does what it’s suppose to so far. Will fit 5.2″ and 4.3″ guns inside and four mags. One mag in each gun and one mag out of each gun inside the safe.
I purchased this portable case to store a pistol to prevent theft and secure it from young children for their protection. I like that it’s light weight and easy to adhere to heavier furniture using the cable that came with it. The four digit panel is very easy to use and well lit in the dark.
